Are you considering making a donation of any size to a non-profit ministry for #GivingTuesday? We’d love it if you’d consider supporting Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center! We are a registered 501c3 and all gifts are tax deductible. We're passionate about the restoration that we see the Gospel bringing in people's lives through this ministry. We’ve put together a TOP SEVEN LIST of reasons why your support of this ministry matters so much!

7 Ways Your Gifts Are Impacting Lives:

  1. Investing in Kids: Valley Haven has always been passionate about kids. Each year we have dozens of youth groups, VBS groups, Cubscouts, Trail Life groups, and families with children come out to the camp where 2 pivotal things happen: 1) They get saturated in the Gospel of Grace and learn of the love their Father has for them and what Christ has accomplished for them. We have the privilege of being able to share this life changing message with so many kids each year! 2) They have good old fashioned fun. No wifi here. No video games. Just fishing poles, rope swings, in ground trampolines, trails to hike, animals to check out, paddle boats, and acres of land to explore. It’s good for the soul!
  2. Helping the Hurting: This past year, the Lord has a multitude of people in very difficult life situations out to Valley Haven. One of our passions is cultivating relationships with people who are hurting and pouring the love of Jesus into them. The fruit is restoration. This year, we’ve seen the power of the Gospel of Jesus restore so many individuals, relationships and churches.
  3. Providing Rest and Care for Leaders: Each year we meet and spend time investing in dozens of ministry leaders who are accustomed to investing in others. Many are weary. Many don’t have other outlets to share the hardships they are facing. Valley Haven is a safe place for leaders to come and unpack and share their own burdens. We’ve seen Jesus pouring out grace into so many leaders over this past year and restoring them in their own callings and passions for the Gospel!
  4. Passionate Care for Creation: We sit on 175 acres of beautiful, soul restoring land at the edge of Hickory, NC. One of our passions is to cultivate this land in such a way that it shines forth the beauty and majesty of our Heavenly Father’s creation. We’ve seen the way this restores the souls of so many. With 175 acres… that’s a lot of work. But we’re passionate about it. It’s why you’ll find us on tractors and backhoes as often as you will find us sharing a message down at the lodge. We’re committed to cultivating the Earth, God’s Creation, with thought and care as His stewards of the land at Valley Haven.
  5. Changed Lives Through the Gospel of Grace: The Gospel is good news. When we really get it, it unleashes the love of the Father in our lives and gives us the courage to live in the approval Christ gained for us at the Cross. Sadly, many have heard bits and pieces of a “gospel” that has driven them further from God rather than closer to Him. Many people believe in their hearts that a relationship with God is about trying harder to appease an angry father. And they feel they’ve come up short. The power of the Gospel is the complete opposite of this. We have a passion for sharing this message all year long with kids, churches, Greek Life, Scouts, families, leaders, college students, and anyone we have the opportunity to cultivate relationships with! It’s been amazing to see the fruit of so many changed lives each year who’ve been captured by the affections of their Father through the power of the Gospel.
  6. Unleashing the FUN:  One of the key aspects of seeing restoration occur in people’s lives is FUN. People need time to fish. They need time to jump off of a rope swing or hike a trail. It helps us process. It helps us connect with Jesus. It binds us together in community with others. We. Love. Fun. Just this winter, we’ve started pool renovations at the Camp. In addition to the ever-so-popular rope swing off the dock into the pool, we’re adding THREE water slides to the pool. It’s worth all the work just to see the joy on kids’ faces!
  7. Making Restoration Affordable: Since the inception of this ministry in the 1960s we’ve been passionate about affordability. Churches are full of people that struggle to afford to attend a much needed retreat for their own souls. Parents struggle to send kids to a youth retreat or a week of life-changing camp. People are maxed out in today’s society. This often leaves them unable to afford the very kinds of events that could bring restoration to their weary souls and bodies. For this reason, Valley Haven has a deeply rooted value of affordability. We make every effort to sacrificially cut costs on every side because we believe passionately that people are in need of the restoration that they experience out at Valley Haven.

There it is folks. There are dozens of reasons to invest in Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center. Those listed above are some of the highlights that we see regularly. Would you consider making a tax deductible gift this year to Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center? Your investment of any amount goes a long way!

I'm married to an incredible woman, Joni. We have two little treasures, Zach (4) and Jon (2). We moved out to Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center in Hickory, NC in April of 2015 and are excited to see Jesus cultivate a relational context for restoration and renewal in His Gospel and grace out here under these beautiful mountains.
An outpost is a strategically placed station. It's part of a larger body, but its location serves to provide care, supplies, protection and safety to those in need. The Outpost blog is an extension of the ministry here at Valley Haven Camp and Retreat Center. Our hope is that both the 175 acre retreat center, this blog and our lives in general will serve as a means of grace  - contexts of restoration and renewal for others in their journey with Jesus. We'd love for you to get involved... so "like" our page, drop us a line or even better, come out and visit.
